Paper Adventures Team Hop – Sketch Challenge

Hello Paper Adventurers! Welcome to your next stop along on our hop this month. If you’ve already hopped on over from our guest designer Zoe and the fabulous Kelly, thanks for keeping the hop going, and make sure you keep going after this.

Tonight I’m sharing with you a special card I’ve made for my husband’s birthday, which is tomorrow. The handsome devil annoyingly never seems to age.

This is the fabulous sketch that Kelly came up with.

When Kelly first showed us her sketch my first thought was that it was perfect for layering the fabulous new stitched rectangles which I have been using on nearly every card lately. But in the end I just went with traditional matt layers cut on the old fashioned trimmer!

This card was actually very simple to create since it uses several patterns from the Classic Garage DSP (from the 2019 Occasions Catalogue). Stampin’ Up! make it so easy to put together a project like this with DSP collections which coordinate so well. The base card is Basic Gray with several of the papers layered on top, finishing with this fun pattern covered in gauges (which I thought was reminiscent of the circles in the sketch).

For the large circle, I used the largest of the circles from the stitched shapes. It fits perfectly around the large circle from the Swirly Frames and together they reminded me of a speed gauge, playing off the DSP. I’ve used black embossing powder and the black foil form the Holiday Catalogue (retired) to cut the numbers out. The two look so great together, shiny and bold.

As you can see I’ve stuck quite close to the original sketch, and the colour palette from the Classic Garage suite.

I love the way a sketch challenge can result in so many different looks, so I’ll be hopping along next to the super talented Lisa to see what she’s come up with. Make sure you keep on hopping right through to see all the creations as well.

Thanks for stopping by,
