CASE-ing the Catty #239 – CASE a Layout and Change the Theme

CTC Header

Happy Sunday, crafty friends. Thanks for being here on your next stop in this week’s CASE-ing the Catty Crew Blog Hop.  It’s been a busy couple of weeks here at Hightrees House with school going back, a couple of birthdays, lots of Tour de France watching (what a great Tour it has been this year!!). Not much time for crafting, but I always find time for CASE-ing the Catty!

This week we have a number of great layouts all from page 103 of the 2019-20 Annual Catalogue to CASE. The challenge is to CASE one of the layouts but also change the theme. I’ve chosen the rhino thank you card and turned it into a dino birthday card for this little miss.

Last week we celebrated the first birthday of Miss Genevieve. This pocket rocket brings so much joy to our family. She’s cuddly and giggly and VERY determined, she loves exploring the great outdoors and hanging out with her big brother and sister. She’s also my number one crafting buddy as she insists on being on Mummy’s lap whenever I try to do anything at the craft desk. Everything I’ve created lately has been made while also juggling this one and trying to keep her from grabbing at everything. Which hasn’t always been successful – she’s terribly fast, so there have been a few fingers in ink pad disasters.

So for her birthday card this bright and colourful dinosaur creation seemed very appropriate.

I just love that the Dinoroar DSP is in such bright colours. So often dinosaur-themed products are in earthy neutrals, which isn’t nearly as much fun. The Dinoroar suite also allows you to do my favourite thing – cut images straight from the DSP using the coordinating dies. So the first thing I did was cut this gorgeous Diplodocus looking creature from the DSP, and that provided a jumping-off point for the rest of the colours.

The catty card uses an oval of coloured vellum, but I only had plain to hand. The plain didn’t look right but then I had a brainwave and thought to try colouring the plain vellum with a blending brush and ink straight from an ink pad. I’m pleased to say this worked beautifully, and hey presto, I had Lovely Lipstick Vellum! Will definitely be doing this again in the future to get any colour of vellum to use.

The background strips of paper are 1/2″ wide and cut from the colour collection DSP (last year’s patterns) in Gorgeous Grape, Granny Apple Green, Melon Mambo, Bermuda Bay, and Mango Melody. The tree is made using the Dino Days Stamps and Dino Dies in Soft Suede, Old Olive, Shaded Spruce, and Bermuda Bay.

For the base card I went with Flirty Flamingo. I’ve never really liked FF but lately I’ve been using it a lot and am starting to come around to it! Genevieve’s party colours were pink, white, and gold, and I liked the way Flirty Flamingo didn’t compete too much with the other bright colours.

For a simple sentiment you can’t go past this or any of the other stamps from Itty Bitty Birthdays, white embossed on black cardstock and cut by hand.

I have to share one last picture of my now one-year-old, just because she is so dang cute.

Thank you so much for sharing a photo of your gorgeous little tot. She’s so cute! And the card is sooooo sweet! Love the coloured vellum !

  2. Such a little cutie. I hope she had a lovely birthday. I love your bright and cheery kids dinosaur card. It is great to see it in the bright colours rather than the earthy tones like you said. Colouring vellum gives you so many more options to suit any colour palette! I use Blends to colour my vellum. 😀
