Do you judge a book by it’s cover? Of course you do. I do!! And what a cover this particular one is – the cover of the 2019 Holiday Catalogue from Stampin’ Up!
This particular beauty, packed full of fabulous festive goodies, is released on September 4. Until then all we can share with you is the cover, so for this week’s CASE-ing the Catty Sunday Challenge Crew blog hop we are using the front cover images for our inspiration. And there’s lots of inspiration packed onto this page. Hopefully, you’ve hopped on over from Shannon’s fun creation, and you’ll keep on hopping through the whole crew.
I’ve been happily pouring over the catty and I have a Big Brown Box of goodies on its way, but I’m still not quite ready to get my Christmas craft on just yet. I’m instead deep in preparations for Heather’s Llamacorn party next week. Yep. Llamacorn. Not llamas or unicorns, both of which are quite popular at the moment and easy to get stuff for, but llamacorns. That’s my girl, never one to go with the regular and popular options.
The inspiration for one of the party decorations came straight from the cover of the catalogue. Firstly the colour scheme, believe it or not. The DSP shown on the bottom of the page is the super fun Let It Snow Specialty Designer Series Paper. While it might be a bit “frosty” for Aussie Christmas cards with its featured snowmen, mittens, and snowflakes, it has gorgeous reverse patterns in the collection and uses Coastal Cabana and Flirty Flamingo together. This is one of my favourite colour combos and I’m thrilled to see it used in Christmas DSP. It also struck me as the perfect colour scheme for a llamacorn celebration. And the other thing on the cover that really caught my eye is those fun snowmen tags on the right side. See them there? They are so simple but really effective, especially with the double layer of plain cardstock in a bright colour underneath. So I CASEd those to make tags for the llamacorn party bags.
Now I’ve been a little naughty (again) this week and I’m showing you a retired stamp and die set here – Birthday Fiesta, from the Occasions catalogue a few years ago – but llamas (and cacti!) are right on trend at the moment, Stampin’ Up! was obviously just way ahead of its time.
We found these awesome metal cacti planters at Kmart and thought we would repurpose them as the party bags. So we have filled them up with sugary goodness and a few small stationery items and wrapped them in clear wrap. I was searching for inspiration for some cute tags to go with them when the ones on the holiday catty jumped out at me.
These were sooooooo quick and easy to make (a bonus for party or Christmas prep!). Cut sheets of cardstock in half lengthways and then 2″ strips off the long side again. From one sheet of A4 cardstock you will get 8 strips, so for the 8 tags I needed to make I used only one sheet of Thick Whisper White and half a sheet each of Coastal Cabana and Flirty Flamingo. You can leave the tops plain, like in the holiday catty’s version, or punch them with a tag topper punch, like I have. Then stamp a “To/From:” on them (there’s the perfect one in the new stamp set Itty Bitty Christmas), add a stamp or die cut image, tie one coloured and one white layer together, and voila! Cute tags!
I tied these mini tassels that I found and just HAD to have around the cacti with some Whisper White Baker’s Twine. The tags are fun and bright and just perfect for the llamacorn festivities.
Now so I’m not being entirely naughty by only showing you non-Christmas and non-new products, I whipped up these two tags in about 3 minutes to show you just how cute this concept is.
The snowmen are fussy cut from the Let It Snow Specialty DSP. They are glittery and bright so have enough interest in them to stand on their own on these tags as the heroes. As with the cacti I’ve popped them up on dimensionals for extra, well, dimension.
I just love how Shaded Spruce and Coastal Cabana look together, especially with the little pops of Flirty Flamingo and Real Red. It is such a fun colour combo in this paper!
This glittery snowman was paired with a Flirty Flamingo base to really bring out the rose in his cheeks.
These are so fun. You could easily make a whole heap of these tags very quickly and easily and with minimal supplies. Especially if you punch or die cut a figure out. A set of them would make a great pre-Christmas gift for someone. Hmmmm. That sounds like a great idea! I’ll add that to my Christmas to-do list. Right now, it’s back to llamacorn crafting and cooking for me!!
Don’t forget ot share your cover inspired CASE with us this week over on our Facebook wall. We so love seeing what you all come up with as well.
And to see what the rest of the crew has to share, hop on over next to Michelle.
