Happy Sunday, stampers! Welcome to the first stop on this week’s CASE-ing the Catty Sunday Challenge Crew Blog Hop. This week we are CASE-ing pages 12 to 17 in the 2019 Holiday Catalogue, where you will find the fabulous Wrapped In Plaid suite.
Contrary to my usual modus operandi, this week I’ve actually used the suite we’re focusing on and I’ve made holiday cards again!! Go me! But then I had a bit of a giggle when I was writing this up because my CASE doesn’t look much like the original. So let me take you on a little journey and explain how I went from this inspiration…
…to these two cards.
What I most loved about the catty example was the multiple trees in different colours, the stitched frame, and the non-traditional Christmas colour for the base card. These elements are all carried over onto my cards.
I started with making the trees by white heat embossing the pretty branch stamp from Perfectly Plaid onto different scraps of brightly coloured cardstock – Mint Macaron, Highland Heather, Flirty Flamingo, and Blushing Bride.
I wanted the cards to be on a white base (because I love me some white base card) but chose Mint Macaron and Highland Heather as my highlight colours for the card. I made frames out of those colours using the Stitched Rectangles and inlaid a white rectangle into those.
I thought the white looked a little plain though so next I blended a small patch of ink onto those white panels, then splattered some Champagne Mist Shimmer Paint all over, and that added just the right amount of pizazz.
You can see here how lovely the shimmery splatters look when they catch the light, and how the inked background is soft enough not to distract from those colourful trees.
I positioned the trees, mounted on dimensionals, overlapping slightly down one side. I spent some time moving them around on the panel before deciding this was the arrangement I liked best. The Ho Ho Ho is also from Perfectly Plaid and white heat embossed onto a simple strip of card in the coordinating colour.
This is why CASE-ing is so much fun, because sometimes what sparks your interest sends you on a journey where you end up with something quite different to where you started. We love seeing your own creative journeys so please CASE a project from the Wrapped in Plaid pages of the Holiday Catalogue and share it with us over on our Facebook wall.
Keep hopping along through all the crew’s projects – to the fabulous Tina next who has some new goodies to show you as well – for plenty of inspiration for both your holiday crafting and non-Christmas needs as well.
Thanks for stopping by,
