Social Stamping – Animals

Socially distant salutations, stampers. I’m very pleased you are joining me here on this fine Saturday – and a fine day it has been, which we have been out enjoying as we are expecting a pretty huge storm to come rolling in tomorrow. I do love a good storm, though, and it is a great excuse to stay inside and get some crafting therapy in.

The theme Kelly has chosen for this week’s Social Stamping is animals – you can read all about it, and see a master list of everyone taking part this week, on Kelly’s post here.

I think I have all of Stampin’ Up!’s animal themed stamps. With three kids but one little animal lover in particular in the house, there’s always a reason to make an animal themed project. Not that animal cards are only for kids, of course. For my recent birthday, I even received a couple of dinosaur cards from some stamping friends, which I just LOVED (major perk of having a network of crafty friends is all the amazing cards that flood your letterbox around your birthday). And you really never can be too old for dinosaurs. Dinosaurs are cool.

There’s some good news for the animal lovers among us with the new Annual Catalogue (which launches June 3). There are some awesome new animal themed sets, as well as a few favourites that are carrying over. Two of my absolute favourites are thankfully sticking around, and my two cards this evening feature those sets. Both cards also feature some new product so are a fun mix of old and new goodies.

My cards are both this awesome Double Slider fun fold – I was inspired by a creation of Kelly’s last year, which she based on a design and tutorial by Teri Pocock (Stampin’ Magic). Check out Teri’s blog post with video and measurements if you’d like to make one of these fun cards, too. Kelly’s post has lots of great photos and a great alternative design as well.

My first card is a bright and fun creation with Dino Days. That gorgeous bright pink base is one of the new 2020-22 In Colors – Magenta Madness. It coordinates beautifully with Pool Party and the Pretty Peacock of the Dinoroar DSP. On the front of the card I’ve simply used a stitched oval and one of the dinosaurs cut straight from the Dinoroar DSP with the co-ordinating Dino Dies.

The fun part is when you pull the little bit of ribbon at the bottom of the card (which is another newbie – In Color ribbon in Cinnamon Cider).

And out hatches…

A baby dino! Still with his cracked egg – Pretty Peacock cardstock, embossed with the Hammered Metal 3D embossing folder, cut with another oval die (the egg die from the Dino set didn’t fit inside my card). I hand cut the “cracks” across the centre.

My second version is a bit heavier on the new stuff. The base card colour is the new Cinnamon Cider (I think this might become my new favourite neutral colour). The green mat is another new In Color, Just Jade. The DSP on the front is the absolutely divine new collection, Forever Greenery. I love this DSP so much, and I am not a green fan usually. But it was the perfect choice for a forrest canopy of trees, out of which, when you pull the little tab of Cinnamon Cider ribbon…

A sweet giraffe…

…with a little problem.

I love this guy from Back on Your Feet. I am so pleased this stamp set is carrying over. Not just for my sloth obsessed eldest daughter’s sake, but because the animals are such a delight, when you realise the little issues they have, like the knotted neck of this giraffe. And the sentiments are fun, too.

This card seemed a little appropriate for the times we are living in, so I’ve teamed it with a sentiment from the Sharing Sunshine digital release. I hope that this card will make someone who is feeling a little down, feel a little better.

I loved making these animal creations, especially because it meant being able to combine old and new. This time of the Stampin’ Up! year means there’s an especially large selection of products to play with, and plenty of inspiration to be had.

Speaking of inspiration, next up is Peta, the Stampin’ Cat herself. Hop on over with me to see what she has to share with us this week.

Thanks for stopping by.

Keep calm, craft on, and wash your hands.
