Happy Sunday, people! I write this from the depths of sinus infection hell, where I have been all week. The mild cold one of my kids brought home from school (it’s that time of year!) well and truly settled in for a long stay with me, so I’ve been a grumpy couch dweller all week. Not much time for crafty play 😦
The bright spark in my week is the CASE-ing the Catty Sunday Challenge! This week we are CASE-ing the Flowers of the 2020-21 Annual Catalogue, which means any floral project from the entire catty is fair game for your creative play this week.
There is so much to choose from for the challenge this week. It is quite a floral catalogue, with some returning favourites as well as some absolutely stunning new floral goodies. My favourite of the new floral goodies (so far!) is the Jar of Flowers bundle. I’ve already shared a few creations using this bundle, so I have something different to show you for this week’s challenge, but I did just want to share this card I made using the Jar of Flowers teamed with some Forever Greenery DSP. Can you believe this is actually the first proper shaker card I’ve ever made??
My main projects this week however combine the inspiration of this scrapbook layout on page 35…
With a little extra inspiration from this little beauty…
To make these two layouts, one soft and floral and feminine, and one…not.
Both are 6″ x 8″, to fit the full size 6×8 page protectors from Stampin’ Up! I love this size for my memory keeping – sometimes the 12 x 12″ size is just a bit too intimidating for a non scrapbooker like me.
For my background paper I chose this gorgeous pattern from the In Good Taste DSP collection. I love this paper so much. It’s so gorgeous and textural and interesting. It provided enough interest in the background that I really didn’t have to add anything extra to it other than the flower clusters and the photo.
The flowers are made with the Timeless Tropic stamp set and Tropics dies (which are on the next page in the catalogue). This is my favourite set from the 2020 Mini Catalogue and I was so happy to see it carry over into the new AC. I chose the colours of the flowers and leaves to match Miss G’s suit in the photo. I’ve been looking at this Bonds Wondersuit of hers for weeks, thinking it would make such a beautiful card, lol. I’ve often drawn inspiration from the kids’ clothes, especially these Bonds suits. The colours and patterns are just so much fun.
The flowers are coloured using Stampin’ Blends. The “You Are My Sunshine” is cut from a Flowers For Every Season Memories & More card.
In the catty example I loved the use of the repeating triangles on the background. I played with this idea for my first layout but it just didn’t work, so I decided to create another layout with that as my inspiration. I used another piece of the In Good Taste DSP for the background then stitched rectangles in Bumblebee and Cinnamon Cider DSP, which plays on the colours on Sammy’s shirt in the photo I used.
This was fast and fun to throw together, and although not a floral project, the inspiration came from a very floral example from the catty. This is the awesome thing about using the catalogue as inspiration – there’s so much in there and often with just a few tweaks you end up with something totally different.
Don’t forget to join in this week and share your floral CASE with us over on our Facebook wall. There’s been so many gorgeous projects shared lately, the new products and catalogue seem to be providing lots of fresh inspiration.
Next up on the crew hop this week is the fabulous Michelle – hop on over to see her beautiful take on this week’s theme.
