Social Stamping Blog Hop – Celebrations

Greetings, Social Stampers! It’s great to be back hopping with these amazing stampers for Kelly Kent’s Social Stamping. If you haven’t already had the scoop on Social Stamping, check out Kelly’s post here, and make sure you check out all the projects in this month’s hop, because it is always such an incredible display of creativity.

For my celebration themed post tonight, I am celebrating…ME! Hee hee 🙂 Well, not really me, but my Stampin’ Anniversary (Stampaversary, if you will) and thus all things stamping and SU! Last month I passed a small but significant milestone of five years as  a Stampin’ Up! demonstrator. Of course I had no idea about this until a lovely letter from Sarah and Shelli arrived with a cool 5 Year pin.

I’ve been thinking a lot since then about just how much has changed in the last five years (nevermind the last five months!). I couldn’t have predicted when I said yes to becomign a demo five years ago how much stamping would become a part of my life – and an entire room in my house (sorry, family!). I often say that stamping is my therapy but I really do mean that. Being a stay at home parent can be a weird mix of never feeling like you get a break, time to yourself, or any quiet, while also being very lonely and isloating from what seems like the real world out there.  That’s very mcuh how I was feeling five years ago – which shockingly, now I think about it, was also two children ago! But today some of my closest friends are my SU! teammates and buddies, and they and the whole big SU! family has been a constant source of social ineraction, support, connection, and inspiration to me. My crafting time is often late at night once the kids are all in bed and the chaos of the day cleaned away, when it’s just me at my craft desk with a glass of wine or a cup of tea and a few good podcasts. It helps me to switch off from any worries, to check in with the world beyond these four walls, and to take some time to do something for me – which is something we parents, especially mums, just do not spend enough time doing, and we really should.

I could go on at length about how much I love stamping and crafting and the world of SU!, but I’m sure that if you are reading this, then you probably share very similar if not exactly the same feelings, so I will leave it there 🙂

In honor of my own little achievement, I took inspiration from the hexagon in the five year pin and created this bright and happy card.

I used the gorgeous, bright DSP Artistry Blooms to make a pattern of five hexagons. I love the colours and the abstract patterns of these papers. I of course went with my favourite combo of Thick Whisper White base card with a layer of Whisper White cardstock that has been embossed with the Tasteful Texture 3D embossing folder. I love me some white on white with a bit of texture.

Another favourite of mine is the Vellum band wrap with the sentiments on top – made up of the word FIVE cut from Rainbow Glimmer Paper and adhesive foam with the Playful Alphabet dies, and TIME TO CELEBRATE from Itty Bitty Birthdays white heat embossed on Basic Black cardstock.

The last little touch is a Stitched Star in Basic Black because stars feel very celebratory to me and I don’t think I can bring myself to make a card without some stitching on it somewhere!!

So that’s my five year stampeversary card to myself : ) Created one quiet evening with a glass of wine and some favourite politics podcasts for company. Also maybe a little chocolate.

Thank you Stampin’ Up! and all my stampin’ friends for five awesome years.

Next up on the hop is one of those fabulous new stamping buddies I have made in the last few years (and a source for some hexagon inspiration this week as well), Julia. Hop on over with me to see what and how she is celebrating this week.

I can also relate to late night drafting sessions after the littlies are tucked up in bed. Good on you. I really love your colourful card – especially the glittery letters. Chantell
