Sunday greetings, crafty friends! It’s time for another CASE-ing the Catty Sunday Challenge. This week we are CASE-ing the colours – Gray Granite, Blushing Bride, Mint Macaron, Soft Sea Foam, Petal Pink, and Whisper White – of these beautiful cards on page 18 of the Stampin’ Up! 2020-21 Annual Catalogue.
Ok, confession time. I am not a fan of this colour combo. Petal Pink and Gray Granite are my two least favourite SU! colours. Luckily there’s Mint Macaron to make me feel a bit better about it all, but still…this was quite the challenge for me. I think because of that I was in a rebellious mood, and was determined NOT to make a floral card, so I decided to try and make these colours work for something completely different.
The most “NOT a floral” I could think of was Geared Up Garage. I started with the oil splatter stamp – which is seriously one of my favourite stamps, it creates such a nice inky background – and laid down a few splatters in Blushing Bride and Petal Pink then went over the top of them with Gray Granite.
I stamped the car in Memento Black ink on a scrap of Whisper White, coloured it with Mint Macaron and Soft Sea Foam Stampin’ Blends, and cut it out with the Garage Gears Dies.
I finished my main panel with a sentiment from Geared Up Garage stamped in black ink (I used the Stamparatus so I could stamp it a few times and get it nice and crisp and black) and a strip of Plaid Tidings DSP adhered to one side. Gray Granite isn’t listed as one of the colours in this DSP so I might be pushing it here but this one looks pretty dang Gray Granite to me.
The front panel is layered on a thin mat of Mint Macaron and then adhered to a Gray Granite base card. In the end I was quite pleased with how this turned out, despite the use of colours I am less than fond of 😛 I actually really enjoy a harder challenge like this that makes me step outside of my comfort zone.
So whether this colour combo is totally your cup of tea or not, I encourage you all to create something using it and share it with us over on the CASE-ing the Catty Sunday Challenge facebook page.
Next up on the crew hop is the fabulous Peta, who has created a really stunning floral card to share this week. Hop on over with me to her blog, and then on to the rest of the crew’s as well.
Thanks for stopping by,
