CASE-ing the Catty #306 – Bring the Bling

Happy Sunday, crafty friends! It’s time for another fabulous round of CASE-ing the Catty, and this week we have a sparkly treat for you.

CTC306

I feel like this is the appropriate time to confess that although I am something of a magpie and do love a shiny object, glitter is…not my thing. In fact, having lived through three toddlers, I pretty much hate the stuff. I pretty much banned it when my oldest kid was about 3, and all these years later I swear I’m still vacuuming glitter out of the playroom carpet.

The current toddler is, however, obsessed with the song “Shiny” from Moana at the moment. It’s a song about a giant crab who lives at the bottom of the ocean and collects shiny things to decorate himself and his home. It’s pretty fabulous. Hearing Genevieve sing it to herself while she’s playing is the cutest thing. This means that all week, while I was trying to think of a project for this hop, I had that song running through my head, which is how I ended up with an underwater theme to my creation.

The catty example I CASED is on page 28 of the 2020-21 Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalogue – the shaker card at the front of this image.

My version is made with Whale of A Time DSP, the Seabed 3D Embossing Folder, and the Shark Frenzy Stamp Set and Shark Dies. Rarely one to stop at just one, I made two versions of the same thing.

The most bling element to these cards is the Flowers For Every Season Gems inside the shaker window. I know I have the Whale of a Time sequins, which would have looked cool, but do you think I could find them?? I love the way the gems look in the finished card, though. Almost like shiny little water bubbles.

Like the sample version, I made embossed the front panel for some cool texture, but I also inked up the embossing folder to add some colour to the panels as well. I love the look this technique produces, and trust me, it’s not as messy as it sounds – the embossing folders wipe clean pretty easily. Glitter all over the carpet is MUCH worse!

The “Bravo” card (sentiment from the Punch Party Sale-A-Bration host stamp set) is for my big daughter, who ended the second week of school with a merit award for “confidently contributing to class discussions”, which made me pretty proud. She wants to be a Marine Biologist, so she absolutely loves the water-themed suites.

On my second card, I’ve used one of the sentiments from Many Messages which is a really awesome new stamp set and die from the Mini Catalogue. On this card I also had to make sure you could still see the “Shiny crab” as Genevieve called it – she was my companion while I was making these, which she dubbed the “shiny cards”. She merrily stamped a bunch of sharks all over some paper while alternating between singing Baby Shark and Shiny to me. She’s a good little stamping buddy.

Next up this week is Peta, hope on over with me to see what sparkly, shiny, blingy goodness she has to show us this week.
